Day 6

"Emigrant Road"
8" x 8"
oil in canvas

As your are coming into Bridgeport from the north there is a road on the left before you get to the rodeo and the Shell Station. It takes you through the back of the town and past barns, houses and even an old church.
Emigrant Road.
  1. a person who leaves their own country in order to settle permanently in another.

And now I have in idea for tomorrow. I was thinking this was the last of  Bridgeport for a while but there's one more in the works. Ahh tomorrow.

And cudos to my partner in this pursuit Jim Develyne. Here's the link to our mutual challenge that he aptly named 'Timemaking'.

Day 5

“Off Season”
oil on canvas
8” x 8”

Here’s another one from my chilly walk around Bridgeport in November. This house is on Main Street also known at Hwy 395. I can clearly see it as it is in the summer, shaded by trees and covered with red white and blue for the 4th of July.

Day 4

“Pembar Garage”
oil on canvas
8” x 8”

My dream would be to go up and down Hwy 395 and paint in the towns of the Eastern Sierra. This is again from a photo I took in September. Shadows of Jollycone in the foreground

Day 3

" Blue Clear Sky"
oil on canvas
8”x 8”

I did this painting from a photograph I took in Bridgeport, California right before Thanksgiving week end. I prefer painting from life. There’s nothing like working outdoors. It’s harder though because things are always changing.  That week end I had my paints in the back of my car but I don’t know what I was thinking. It was 12 degrees.

Day 2

oil on canvas
8" x 8"
One thing about the studio in the winter months is the sun. It blinds students who are trying to work and changes so fast that you almost have to walk around to avoid it. But at the end of the day when it sets right over Santa Monica. The are colors are amazing and  I thought I was exaggerating until the sun went down tonight.

30 Paintings in 30 Days

I'm so grateful for the studio and all the wonderful artists who come in to work here . No one has a better job than me. Honestly I cannot remember one day that I left the studio and felt mad or stressed- other that some security issues which  hopefully have resolved.

But as I go back and look at my entries there is this continued complaint that I'm always making. It goes, "I'm teaching so much, I'm not painting." Blah, Blah Blah....back for years. This year it really got to me with the passing of my Mom and the move to Long Beach. So TODAY I am starting a 30 paintings in 30 day. (minus Christmas and New Year's Day).

oil on canvas 8" x 8"

Last week I had an amazing afternoon at the Pasadena Museum of History. There was a little painting from 1918 done at about this same location - breakers hitting the beach and the Palos Verdes Peninsula in the background.  Today it was one of those monochromatic days in Long Beach. Not too cold to paint but just gloom until I stood out there a while. I'll go back.
