Continuing Collaboration

The 30 days are up but my partner Jim D’Evelyn and I are still talking about collaborating and how to structure work relates to what the other is doing.   I took off some days from painting  but really enjoy the conversations and problem solving that is involved.
I want to work in a larger format and for longer than a day on each piece.
While we are getting started ‘Blue ‘ is the theme for the next piece. Here’s where I got today. The underpaintingng and first coat of paint and I realize the red boat has to go.

Watercolors from the OC

These are two little sketchbook pieces I did looking down from the hills of Laguna Nigel. At first I didn't think the first one worked very well because there is so much going on with all the thousands of houses in the landscape. It's not perfectly successful but it's not as bad as I thought when I did it.  The second is an unfinished sketch of Dana Point.

Avalon in January

I went to Avalon after being absent for 10 years- is that possible? Here’s a scene I’ve done before . It’s pretty magical out there.

Day 30!!!!!

‘Self Portrait in the 30th Day’
oil on canvas
14” x 11”

Omg 30 paintings in 30 days. This one almost killed me. Nothing like a self portrait to make you test your insecurity and self judgement. But I wanted to note the end of this project and how much it consumed me. Jim (my partner in the 30 day challenge) and I worked through holidays, family celebrations, bad weather, sickness and frankly sort of exhaustion at the end.

Day 29

'Studio Props 2'
oil on  canvas
10" x 8'

Maybe this was an odd choice. I was thinking of the poignant gravestone from my partners choice yesterday. I love painting white on white

Tomorrow is the last day!

Artist Ann Bridges and Photographer Jim DEvelyn are collaborating on producing one work each day for 30 days. Ann lives in California, and Jim in Washington. No theme or common thread as we begin, yet if one comes forth we may pursue it. Enjoy!

Day 28

'Studio Props'
oil on canvas
8" x 8"

I arrived at the studio this afternoon and once again I have a security problem. My storeroom door was smashed and the lock to the main studio was jammed and I couldn't get in. Eventually all calmed down and I went around the studio gathering object that I love - kinda like comfort food.

So here we are at Day 28 with only two days to go. If you haven't clicked on Timemaking to see the month long collaboration with Washington State photographer  Jim D'Evelyn it's worth a look. As we progressed the works start to hang together. And the humor is the best. Check out 'There's Always One.'

Day 27

‘Winter Beach’
oil on canvas
8” x 10”

It rained this week end. I went out and no one was there - just the life guard towers.

Day 26

‘Yellow House at 12 th and Cedar’
oil on canvas
9”x 6”

I went out with my friend Sarah Arnold who just loves this yellow house. There’s a lot going on -lots of gingerbread .

Here we are with only a few more days to go in the 30/30 project. Yeah, I can leave work after class and get up on a day off and not think about what or where I’m going to paint but that’s probably what I could be thinking every day. Will consider all of this in the days to come.

Day 25

‘Wilshire and Western’
oil on panel
8” x 8”

I went out on the deck after class yesterday. It was just about to start raining but the gray sky made the color of the Wiltern even more turquoise.
